These sessions will be combination of Yin Yoga with a few gentle & slow Hatha Yoga stretches interweaved and of course relaxation with Tibetan Singing Bowls throughout.
Yoga is my favorite modality, the base, the roots for so many things in my life. When I first started practicing yoga I favored strong practices like Ashtanga, Bikram, Vinyasa. I was still in a mindset that I needed to have a strong practice to have a strong body, which is probably partly true. After 15 years of mothering and working full-time and being a highly sensitive individual I realised that what I needed to be strong within myself is a gentle practice to give my body and mind a break and some nourishment.
Over the years my practice has changed a lot. When I first practiced Yin Yoga I felt like coming home in my yoga practice. My yoga practice is now very intuitive and interwoven with strong and gentle elements, plenty of time to experience the asanas / poses, plenty of variation to accommodate for our different bodies and skeletal structures, plenty of time to breathe consciously and deep and I am providing a space where the mind can become calm and settled and the body feel nourished.
I strongly encourage building a deeper relationship with your own body and making your practice what suits you and what nourishes you on the day. I don’t do many physical adjustment and prefer to guide my students verbally to learn to listen to their bodies and notice the adjustments that need to be done to suit your body. When I practice with other teachers and am a student myself I often adjust the guided practice to suit me – e.g. taking a child pose when I a tired, taking an easier version of a pose, e.g. low lunge instead of high lunge etc. I would like to to empower my students to intuitively know what is right for them in a safe container. We all have such different skeletal structures & different energy levels & emotional states depending on how our day was, what we are going through – our practice needs to reflect this – there is no one for all solution & I try to support that in my sessions.
There is a good selection of props available at the studio, but you can bring your own if you prefer. Wear something comfortable that you can easily move in and bring your water bottle to hydrate.
The sessions are going to be 9.30 – 10.45 am from the 28th October until 16th December at The Yoga Space in Hastings.
There will be a session pass available for all 8 sessions. The cost is $15 per session if you purchase a pass and $18 for drop in sessions if there is space. Drop ins have to be booked via phone 021 – 161 43 40 and paid in cash.
The sessions are non-refundable if the session goes ahead (if you purchase a ticket and I don’t get 8 committed people you will get a refund!), but you can transfer your ticket to a friend for certain nights when you can’t make it.
If you have any questions or are wondering if these sessions would suit you, please feel free to be in touch [email protected] / 021 – 161 43 40.
